Active Mums NZ was started in 2006 and as the brain child of Personal Trainer Anna Gibbons.
Following the birth of her first child, Anna was keen to get back into some form of structured exercise to help her recover from pregnancy and birth but didn’t want to put her baby into child care so she could go to the gym. She decided to get a group of her ante-natal friends together and meet weekly in a hall with, each bringing along a swissball and some light weights and do some exercise together in a social and supportive environment where the mums could bring the babies along to the sessions.
Anna then decided to document the exercise sessions, spend time researching in the space of pre and post-natal exercise, network with other health professionals to get their input and then grew the franchise of Active Mums.
In 2016, Camille O’Connor, took over the reigns at Active Mums NZ having been involved with Active Mums as the Central Otago franchisee operator for 5 years.
Camille’s background in personal training as well as fitness education saw the brand grow to not only developing new and exciting programmes and resources for Active Mums but also to branch out into providing education to health and fitness providers upskilling them in the space of pre and post-natal exercise delivery through running both in-person and online workshops. These workshops are also recognised by Exercise NZ.
Over the last 2 years, Active Mums have grown their brand and now have a Head Coach – Edee Bolton who supports our national team of Active Mums Trainers who delivery our exercise programmes throughout New Zealand.
Edee’s role also encompasses designing content for our new and growing number of in-person and online programmes as well as being one of our Workshop Presenters.
Active Mums are also excited to be launching our brand new Online Post-delivery Wellness guide which is due to hit our website in June 2023.
